Cultural philosophy

“Kulturphilosophie und Ästhetik” is taught in Fribourg by Prof. Dr. Edward Swiderski. The proseminars are taught by Oliver Nievergelt.

One part of Fribourg’s cultural philosophy focus is the Russian philosophy of the 19th-20th centuries (occasionally courses on Polish philosophy are also offered). Special attention is paid to the close link between socio-cultural and historical contexts and philosophical questions.

Cultural philosophy also includes lectures and seminars on three topics: aesthetics/philosophy of art, social philosophy, and “Kulturtheorien gestern und heute”. Eastern European topics are not specifically dealt with here, but can be considered individually by students in their work.

This specific focus is unique across all of Switzerland. The courses are held alternatively in German and French. More information can be found here.
